It's old news now - but I wake up every day and remember that a few months ago, Jeff and I made the spontaneous (and maybe a little impulsive) decision to get a dog! First off, we didn't even know where to start but we remembered that a friend of ours recently gained a litter-full of dogs and all it took was a few hours with them and then we took one home that same night (kinda wish it was that easy to get a baby...lol). We went back and forth with different names and as we were about to park the car, literally we both thought of the name Shepherd at the same time. We loved it and saw it fitting as he is a shepherding dog anyway - super original, I know. Lol.
In all honesty, I was never a dog person. Actually, I grew up so afraid of them and felt like they were always out to get me. Ha! Now that I have a dog of my own, I feel like I'm living in a whole new world and my eyes -- literally opened to a whole new thing that is .... well, God's creation. Ha! You guys!!! I just wasn't an animal person!!! However, these past couple of weeks, we've learned much about ourselves and so much more about how to take care of a dog - their temperaments, tendencies, what they want and how they show it, and ALL the things! It's overwhelming but SO neat at the same time and let me just say, it's rewarding to see him grow and learn so quickly. He is freakin' smart!
Having a dog has changed the pace of our lives (excited to see what a baby will do) -- lol. When we get back to Indy, we're excited to start running with Shepherd because we're all gonna need the running. It's truly a win-win for all of us. Lol. Okay --- here are some photos for ya!
The first night we took him home. He was SO small and almost fragile. Lol.
I always assumed that dogs slept curled up in a ball, but I was so wrong. I've caught Shepherd in the craziest sleeping positions. I've learned that you can actually tell how they're feeling by the way the lay and sleep -- super interesting stuff.
Another silly sleeping position. Jeff and I joke that our dog's sleeping positions are becoming reflective of its owners. Lol.
Playing with his furry friend, Hazel. She's super energetic so it helps to release a lot of Shepherd's energy. By the end of the night, they're both drained and ready for bed. Lol.
Out and about running errands and he is doing so much better on car rides. He was actually terrified in his first couple of rides, but he's grown so much since then.
Our 2nd vet visit and he was literally on his best behavior. He actually got his 2nd set of vaccines and it put him out all day. I literally feel like this little guy is my baby!
Not sure if Shepherd knows how to swim quite yet. He was scared to go into the water. Baby steps, I guess.
And alas - here he is today. We got a good amount of snow today and Shepherd absolutely loved it. We still have new questions everyday but google has been a helpful friend in those times. Today, I asked Jeff, "Can you google to see if he'll be okay in the snow?" #firsttimedogowners ... what can I say.
